Happy "Hypocracy day"!
Nobody is gonna talk about assimilation today as everybody celebrates St. Patrick's day wearing their "Kiss me I'm Irish" T-shirts

Irish came here legally for the most part.
Way too many Mexicans broke the law coming here and by their actions besmirched the reputation of those folks from SOB who played by the rules.
The Irish worked from the bottom up---unlike today's immigrants who expect the best right off the bat while displacing American workers.
During the Irish migration to the US, there were signs posted in store fronts saying, "Irish need not apply." Yet our ancesters survived as the Irish do in this country today.

Are you saying that the descendants of the Irish immigrants that came here legally a hundred (or more) years ago haven't "assimilated"?
I'm not crazy about St. Patrick's Day myself...but let me retort.
My great grandfather, or was it great-great grandfather, came to this country by way of Dublin. According to family legend, he did not insist that he speak his native tongue (only) or that anyone communicating with him had to. He did not demand special treatment. Did not complain about his new environment. He only wanted to work, DID WORK, to make a new and productive life for himself. Oh, and he was a legal, assimilated immigrant, was glad to become an American citizen.
One day out of the year as opposed to 365. Again, not my favorite day - too much buffoonery - but let's just put this all in to perspective.
BTW, I am not bothered by anyone speaking Spanish. Or Russian. Or Chinese...

If they still use the Irish flag.... Yes
