A key member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus delivered a mixed review of the group's meeting with President Obama today, saying the session "went well" but did not result in any firm commitment by the administration to address immigration reform soon.

Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D), who worked with Obama in the Illinois congressional delegation, said this afternoon that he and his fellow CHC members "firmly advocated for [Obama] to keep his promise to bring about comprehensive immigration reform."He added that, per the group's preference, immigration was the only subject discussed during the hour-long meeting, and that some members expressed their concerns about the administration's policies on immigration raids and deportations.

The White House has not been particularly vocal on the subject of immigration since Obama took office. After the collapse of the Bush administration's efforts to push through comprehensive reform, the issue remains politically sensitive and has not often appeared on lists of Obama's priorities for his first year in office.

"The president has been silent on this issue, eerily silent to many of us," Gutierrez said, adding that he believes "the administration is still struggling with what to do about comprehensive immigration reform."

Rep. Gutierrez: Obama 'Eerily Silent' on Immigration - Capitol Briefing

As long as Luis[e] and the CHC ethnocentric racists are unhappy, I'm thrilled. Maybe Durbin showed Obama my letter about passing amnesty equaling Americans rioting in the street and decided ticking off American's is not in his best interest.

Agreed. If he's smart he'll quietly order the raids to continue, cut off welfare, etc. and let the amnesty issue die. Those illegals with any sense at all will finally realize it's time to self deport.

He keeps stating immigration reform... says we need to do something about
immigration. What he REALLY means is ILLEGALS. Not once does he say, we need
to reform ILLEGAL immigration. They use LEGAL immigration laws as the topic and
as is what needs to be reformed.. what bull. We all know for a fact is what they want
is amnesty for those millions who broke our laws by slithering over here ILLEGALLY!
But.. of course you'll never hear "illegal immigration" out of this guys mouth.
Reform WHAT? Legal immigration? bull.. they want ILLEGAL immigration to be reformed.
They should STOP using mixed words and state the truth! Everyone knows what this guy
stands for and who is backing him.. his name ain't Smith.. read between the lines folks!

Why do you keep adding an "e" to the end of his name?
"Luis[e]"
What does that mean?

While his name has nothing to do with it, the rest of what you said is not foreign to any of us on this forum who are against illegal immigration. We all know better. We're just watching the drama unfold to remain on top of the issues. If or when the time to make a move comes, we'll be ready.

Exactly immigrants are not the problem it is ILLEGALS that are the problem and want amnesty for their criminal behavior.

Happy or not, the crux of the issue is that it doesn't matter what policy or reform hey come up with at this time. Without secured and controlled borders there is no way to enforce ANY immigration policy that has teeth.
