Enforcement of Immigration Laws: Creates ch. 986, F.S., the "Florida Security and Immigration Compliance Act"; prohibits public employers from entering into contracts for physical performance of services with contractors not registered & participating in federal work authorization program; provides for parallel requirements & procedures with respect to such contracts with DOT; requires Chief of Domestic Security to negotiate terms of memorandum of understanding concerning enforcement of federal immigration & customs laws & related matters; provides requirements & procedures with respect to determination of lawful immigration status of persons charged with crime & confined to jail; requires agencies & political subdivisions of state to verify lawful presence in U.S. of persons who have applied for state or local public benefits, or for federal public benefits, that are administered by agency or political subdivision; provides penalty for knowingly & willfully making false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or representation in affidavit executed under act; prohibits agency or political subdivision of state from providing state, local, or federal benefit in violation of act.Effective Date: July 1, 2009, except that subsection (2) of section 986.05, Florida Statutes, as created by this act, shall take effect only if funding under the federal Homeland Security Appropriation Act of 2009 or any subsequent source of federal funding is provided to fund the provisions of that subsection Last Event: Added to Governmental Affairs Policy Committee agenda on Monday, March 23, 2009 4:12 PM
