How about getting off our lazy bottoms......and going out to vote......you can complain all you want...but unless you express your concern at the poles...all you are really doing is whining......remember...the highest turnout for voters was the last presidential election...and it still did not go over 50%......
Whites are the majority in most areas of South Florida. However, if you're looking for WASP whites in Miami in great numbers, you're barking up the wrong tree. Anyone who has a hang-up about this should probably consider living elsewhere (and realize that "WASPs" haven't held majority status in this country for a while).
I don't care at all about "white" or not. Feel more comfortable with the blacks than the So Americans. My problem is having no cultural history/common interests/values with any of my neighbors. I enjoy a multi cultural experience, just don't want to feel isolated, which I do in Dade county, being of Northern Euro history, from a long time family of USA residents. Technically, I am not a "WASP" either.
If I was a Jew from NY I would have shared history. I am not, do not. Don't get me wrong, many close Cuban and Jewish friends/mentors. Just wish I could share some more history and culture with ANYONE here...New understanding of what it must have been like for Blacks all over the USA, and the early Cuban immigrants...
What alot of people forget is the substantial mixing that is going on as we type here. There are alot of Hispanic and non-hispanic white mixed children who are labled hispanic(they mostly look white). Most of the Asian/White mixed kids will mix back in with a white and the result will be "white". I imagine the label white (with exception of hispanics) will have a different corralation in just the next generation. If you look at the latest birth data, the overall number of hispanic births increased at a signficantly lesser rate. I imagine it is because the number of the child-bearing hispanics coming from Mexico has just peaked. And of those, most of them have their kids already. This economy, I imagine would suppress many of them from having more than their 2-3 kids they already have. Just a thought....
"A great number of hispanics in Miami are caucasian" doesn't mean anything to our society; they are still "different" from other white (non-hispanic) people.
Since I'm Italian am I also different from other white people? Exactly where is this line drawn?
I guess he was not able to get a visa to emigrate to the Socialist Worker's Paradise of Cuba so he is stuck here living amongst us gringos. No wonder he is in a bad mood.

Thanks for any help.

As both of you stated.
Technically speaking: I am not a WASP (half Hungarian lineage) but self identify as one re: cultural mores, etc.
Now: if discussing so-called 'WASP' culture; there are many 'people of color' who qualify (Obama, Oprah, Tiger, to name but a few)
Too: not so long ago; Irish, Italians, hell Eastern Euros were not counted as 'White'-----------never mind that many of the above are Nordic White in appearance.
Final point: as the illegal Hispanic alien invasion is receding and being reversed (Mexican nationals in particular are disappearing---------at least here in Arizona)----------the 'Hispanic' label will most likely fade away for Americans of Mexican, etc. descent.

I would say that about a fifth of the people with whom I grew up were half Hispanic, half non-Hispanic white. There is really a lot of interaction and mixing between the two groups, and the fact that South Florida has the best Hispanic / non-Hispanic white residential integration in the country vouches for that.
