"This official-English bill would actually eliminate bilingual or multilingual driver's license tests," said Rep. Randy Terrill, R-Moore.

Terrill said it would save Oklahoma taxpayers thousands of dollars.

The cost not only includes money spent to create bilingual tests but also money to hire translators to grade the tests.
Okla. Lawmakers Push To Make English Official Language - Politics News Story - KOCO Oklahoma City (http://www.koco.com/politics/19127409/detail.html - broken link)

Perhaps instead of wasting tax dollars on Spanish-only tests and those who interpret them the money could instead go towards more important domestic issues such as education, health care, crime prevention, drug prevention, university tuition, etc.

Wouldn't that be nice or perhaps I'm just another xenophobic, racist and white trash redneck for suggesting such insane alternatives?

I like the way Oklahoma is quietly passing tough on illegals laws/tough on the employers of illegals laws after tough on illegals laws/tough on the employers of illegals laws. The message sent to illegal aliens is clear. Illegals are not welcome in Oklahoma; pick one of those Democratically controlled sanctuary states to break into.

The Governor would most likely veto it.

I'm usually liberal about most things, but this is one subject where I probably side more with conservatives. I believe it's very important to have a unifying language. Language is the basis for any culture. When people can't understand each other, it leads to serious problems.

One need only look at Canada to see how having two official languages causes trouble. Since the country was formed, there has always been a rift between the English-speaking Canadians and the French-speaking ones.

Interesting...English is already the official language in most states, including California. I went and looked it up, and I'm actually surprised that Texas has no official language.

It won't get that to point.
We don't have several generations of people speaking foreign languages.
People wet their pants at when they see services offered in foreign languages, and businesses marketing in foreign languages. But it's not going to keep future generations of an immigrant family from speaking English.
As long as this country has been around, there has been a population of immigrants who didn't speak English, and stuck to their enclaves that might as well have been the old country. Now, they are able to become more involved in the country, and their children are still learning English.

That may be because Texas has about a kazillion Texacans that neither want to, or try, to speak the english language. They desire to move the border of Mexico about 40 miles north of Dallas.

I don't know everyone who supports that idea, but I know several on this forum do. I can't begin to count how many times I've seen some user saying we "stole" Texas from Mexico. I am sure those users would support a border change.
