The Competition for Low-Wage Jobs - Room for Debate Blog - NYTimes.com

1. At the height of the recent economic boom, the number of hours worked by the typical low-skilled immigrant was 56 percent greater than for the typical low-skilled native. SIMPLE WORDS LAZY.

2.Most low-skilled immigrants are able-bodied individuals who have come to the United States to improve their lives. While they might take menial jobs in our country, their skills would place them solidly in the middle of the pack back home. Many low-skilled natives, on the other hand, are individuals who are from unstable homes or grew in poor neighborhoods, or they simply do not have what it takes to succeed in a technologically sophisticated society. Why would individuals who did not take jobs when labor demand was strong two or three years ago be more likely to work when new jobs are scarce today? again lazy, knowing english and being less motivated then a third world mentality?

3.Non-citizens, whether legal or illegal, are much less likely than natives to be eligible for government assistance, forcing them to depend on their own hard work to provide for their families. again third wold people proving that they have stronger family values and know what it really means to do back breaking job if your family depends from your working hands. concept that lazy natives dont grasp.

point clearly the immigrants that do come are seem to be highly motivated and are easily more capable of seeing thru the american dream then
the poor broke families free of government services.

round up the illegals accept less legals and lets do a welfare state
thats what the true natives want. bottom line WERE LAZY.

WRONG! Americans/green card holders will not work in dangerous conditions especially for chump change.

All the more reason to hit employers with even prison time, if needed, for knowingly hiring illegal aliens.

And the slaves worked even harder, and were at the beck and call (and beckon call) of their masters 24/7. Your point?

That's absolutely correct. Those slaves didn't sit around bellyaching, and demanding more time off! They WORKED!......and, from what I hear, the system worked well......(for SOME people). Others weren't as pleased, though...

Like you, I fail to see the point....beyond the fact that people work harder when they're oppressed a little...and they probably work even HARDER when they're oppressed a LOT.

Sounds to ME, from the OP's reasoning, that if we want to keep these 'immigrants' motivated, and ensure that they continue to be 'hard-working', we'd better make SURE that they remain 'immigrants', rather than legalize them, which would cause them to get 'comfortable', and to lose that 'competitive edge' that makes them so desirable as workers.

and theres so many problems facing the world right now that if you dont keep up with the closest of your friends then so be it. all of us will pay the consequences. and again it doesnt matter how much you type or say
the circumstances will not change. and if you think so otherwise then
why did our latest politicians talk about a reform in imigration? BOTH
macain and obama.

I will be waiting for those gods to descend from their ivory thrones and start to dictate the future outcome of this nation.

Do you know what a scab is? A scab is someone who will work for absolute crap wages with no benefits.
Now, legal immigrants are not scabs and they are a wonderful addition to our country.
Illegal immigrants are scabs who drive wages down. And yes, that is stupid and ultimately detrimental to themselves.

But hey - who cares, right? Viva La Raza --- you are your own peoples labor pimp. And you should be ashamed.

If using the word 'ensure' makes a person sound God-like, that's a new one on me. Otherwise, you've lost me somewhere....

"Paying the consequences"?...on that, I'm sure you're correct. In fact, it seems like in the matter of years and years of neglect, we're ALREADY beginning to pay the consequences for massive illegal immigration; and I have absolutely NO doubt that the nastiness of this forum is only a faint taste of what lies in the future. Massive uncontrolled illegal immigration could well end up having 'consequences' that continue on down the generations as bitter as the consequences of slavery, and at LEAST as divisive.
