Illegals getting Social Security benefits???
I just received a petition, via email, to sign, opposing the fact that the Senate voted this week to allow illegals access to Social Security benefits...CAN THIS BE TRUE? Does anyone know anything about this??? I've heard that they might try to pass it, but has it actually happened? No wonder SS is going broke!!! What happens to those American citizens who have worked hard all their lives and unfortunately, only have this to live off of????

You'd think those who commit social security fraud should be ineligible to avail themselves of the benefits of the program. But common sense has evaporated in Washington. I hope they're not puzzled as to why Congressional approval ratings are at an all-time low.

I thought one had to work (legally) for an significant amount of time as well, in order to collect SS?

Did this really happen? I'd like to see the bill and who voted for it. Then I'd like to see every one of those congressmen tried as traitors to the American people.

(March 30) The White House has begun to circulate details of a new immigration plan negotiated with Republican Senators. Our analysis here is based on the 23-slide PowerPoint show the White House has been giving Members of Congress the last couple of days, and on our interviews with Members who got the presentation. Under the plan:
Nearly all of the official 12 million illegal aliens would be allowed to immediately apply for a "Z visa," which would allow them to live and work legally in the United States for three years and be fully eligible for free, taxpayer-subsidized secondary education and emergency social services (i.e., what they broke the law to obtain – amnesty). All they have to do is pay a $2,000 fine and a $1,500 processing fee. How many billions of people in the world would gladly pay $3,500 for the chance to live and work in the U.S.?
Z visas are good for three years and may be renewed – indefinitely. The illegal aliens who hold these visas just have to pay the $3,500 every three years. But in order to get the first renewal, the illegal aliens would have to show progress toward assimilation by passing an English and civics test.
At any time, these illegal aliens may apply for a path to U.S. citizenship. The only thing that will slow them down is they will have to leave the country to be screened for security and will have to pay a $2,000 application fee and another $8,000 when their permanent residency is approved. The White House's PowerPoint slide states that nearly all illegal aliens are expected to eventually win this permanent residency and path to U.S. citizenship.
The plan is totally insensitive to the deterioration in the quality of life for most Americans who would see their communities forced to accommodate another 200 million people because of immigration by mid-century.

This appears in the WT about illegal aliens who paid into the system receiving SS; just perused the article, but it supports the OPs query:

This is Treason!
treason-is the crime of disloyalty to one's nation. A person who betrays the nation of their citizenship and/or reneges on an oath of loyalty and in some way willfully cooperates with an enemy, is considered to be a traitor
Traitor -may also mean a person who betrays (or is accused of betraying) their own political party, nation, family, friends, ethnic group, religion, social class, or other group to which they may belong

Two posts up,
I read that excerpt Chloedog and it sounds pretty discouraging to me. If an illegal alien has $10,000 to pay for these visas and application fees, then they don't need our social security benefits and they can pay to go thru the legal process to become legal. I don't think this bill is really designed for illegal aliens to actually benefit. But just in case, I am all for a protest to keep them from accessing the SS benefits that are rightfully ours. We're the ones who have worked our butts off for them, and we will need them when we can no longer work.

I agree. This congress should be dragged into the streets and shot. There should be absolutely no concessions.

approval ratings
I always laugh at these ratings. Does anyone think that congress cares if we approve of what their doing? Basically they say "were doing this, what is anyone going to do about it" and we do nothing that is effective.
