Our Pandemic Flu Preparedness system is set up for the US population. It is not set up to handle millions of people from other countries flooding here for treatment. NO COUNTRY'S healthcare system is. That is common sense. Why should Canada include plans to provide medical care, hospital beds and medications for 10 million Americans in their flu plan? Why should the citizens of Canada be expected to pay for the extra drug stockpiles, etc.? Our healthcare system is not exactly robust to begin with. IF large numbers of Americans are sickened and require hospitalization, we will be hard pressed to cope with that. What on earth do you think will happen if we also have millions from Mexico who come here both legally and illegally for the express purpose of taking advantage of American healthcare if they come down with a severe case of the flu? Just how well do you think it is going to go over when actual Americans are told there is no bed for them at the local hospital because part of the beds are taken up by Mexicans who came here to 'visit' just so they would happen to be in the US if they got sick?

After extensive tests only 7 deaths in Mexico can be attributed to the so called swine flu.

I think it's already way up. They close the schools and all public events on the Mexican side of the border, and that just has people crossing over to do stuff on the USA side. If parents want their kids to finish the school year, they'll just bring them over to the schools on the USA side but if nothing else, they'll come to the night clubs, shopping malls and entertainment going on over in the USA.

If this flu continues and it stays bad, then the Mexican hospitals will run out of beds. That alone will have people heading over to the USA but also many who would be expected to pay a hospital bill in Mexico will simply come to the USA where it's free.

Why not? To me, the height of our gov.'s insanity is the 'Passive Surveillance Protocol' Janet Napolitino has enacted to protect us from having people sick with the flu cross into the US. Basically, this 'Protocol' consists of a)noting whether or not people look like they are sick and b)asking them if they feel well.

Now, can you imagine what would happen to any Border Patrol agent who tried to stop someone from SOB from entering the US because he or she 'looked sick'? NCLR, MALDEF and the ACLU would be shouting that he was discriminating against hispanics and he would probably end up being fired. Or maybe even sent to jail. Then the aggrieved Mexican and his family would sue for millions.

As for the asking them if they are feeling well, Good Lord what on earth does Janet think they are going to say? As has been noted elsewhere, they will probably show up at the border vomiting and in convulsions with a fever of 106 degrees and Janet Napolitino will lean over and shout in their ear: "Nod your head if you feel OK! Or blink your eyes!".
People in wheelchairs and hospital stretchers will be coming across with their family members rolling their IV poles and ventilator along beside them. This policy is not going to stop anyone.

Even if your source of info is indeed correct (which I doubt); the demands to close/lock our southern border will only increase-------------especially on top of the US economy contracting ca. 6% in the first quarter of 2009.

No need to close the border or restrict travel from Mexico.

The child died in Houston, Kathy Barton, a spokeswoman for the city's health department, told KTRK-TV. It unclear where the child lived.

However, according to a Reuters report, the child was Mexican and traveled to Houston for medical care.

"Border controls do not work. Travel restrictions do not work," WHO spokesman Gregory Hartl said in Geneva, recalling the SARS epidemic earlier in the decade that killed 774 people, mostly in Asia, and slowed the global economy.
What a crackpot! Where does the WHO find these people? There was no treatment for SARS when the outbreak occurred in 2003. While it spread to 37 countries, thanks in large part to China being less than forthcoming about what was going on, containment measures were what ultimately stopped the disease. Political correctness will be the death of us all, literally.

I know-I just heard that on the news. Traveling to Houston for medical care? I am not really surprised by that. Obama seal the border now! Get our national guard down there to limit the illegal aliens coming through and also limit the number of people coming here across the border check points to those who are truly "essential"-if anyone at all.

It will be interesting to find out what services exactly this child traveled to Houston to obtain. Was it for the flu or something non-related? We cannot have anyone from any country coming here illegally or legally to get treatment for this flu. We need to use all our resources on Americans and we certainly don't need additional people coming here who would help to spread this even more.

Other countries are limiting people coming into their countries, why the hell don't we?

Because we are stupid and because Obama wants to show the idiot world out there that we are not mean people.
