A border patrol canine got a whiff of something foul in some backseat groceries during a routine inspection.

On Saturday a Mexican national attempted to cross the Mexican border from Nuevo Lareda, Tamaulipas, Mexico to the U.S. with a load of groceries in the back of a 2001 Chevy Suburban. But, 'Aras,' a Customs and Border Protection Currency Canine, alerted officers that something smelled fishy.

They put the vehicle through a non-intrusive imaging system scan, which indicated anomalies within three detergent boxes.

Upon closer scrutiny, CBP officers discovered 12 bags of undeclared U.S. currency in the boxes. A total of $302,875 was seized, along with the vehicle.
