YAKIMA, Wash. — The construction site for Yakima's second Wal-Mart is embroiled in a labor dispute involving about two dozen workers who say they're owed three weeks of back pay.
And the conflict is further complicated by the question of workers' legal status. The subcontractor acknowledges he's late in paying his employees, but says he will only pay workers who are here legally.
Yakima police got involved Tuesday after two workers and a young boy showed up at the construction site at Nob Hill Boulevard and 64th Avenue. Several officers responded after they received a call about someone with a gun.
"We just came to get the money we were owed," said Manuel Garcia Espinoza, 25, who was not arrested. "They told us to leave or else they'd call immigration on us."

well people should be paid for work done.

if he is worried about being prosecuted for employing and paying illegals, then he should have thought about that before hiring them.

i dont like when people line their pockets with workers hard earned money.

give the workers their money. easy enough. the "illegality" is probably pure speculation. is that all it takes to withhold earnings? accuse someone of being illegal?

Criminals are expecting other criminals to have integrity and loyalty?

Right, as usual. Could the old adage "EVIL is as EVIL DOES" fit here? How about, What goes around, comes around? Great post JDM

If they were legal, why would the officers threaten to call ICE on them? They got their just deserts, They broke the law by coming here. Now if they police would just investigate the contractor and freeze his assets, or someone contact Wal-mart over this and have him thrown off the job, maybe some of our American/Legal citizens could get to work.

What rights? If they are illegal, they gave up those rights to work under the table tax free, and to be here illegally.
