The Spanish-speaking community already was uneasy when police reported Schneller, 18, had a Mexican fiance, and things got worse when Raul Ponce-Rocha was named as a suspect, said Lydia Albright, a Puerto Rican Kronenwetter resident. Schneller, a D.C. Everest Senior High School senior living in Wausau, was found slain in her apartment May 2. Ponce-Rocha, 22, of Wausau, an undocumented immigrant, was charged Wednesday with her homicide.
Since Ponce-Rocha's arrest, public online forums have been clogged with comments against illegals living in the area.
Damari Cruz of Wausau said it is not fair that people find it so easy to judge others by the language they speak, she said.
While I totally agree with Mr. Cruz, this story is indicative of why Americans of hispanic descent should loudly voice their opposition to illegal immigration. Unless and until they demand that the la raza crowd stops lumping them all together, the hostility (and eventual violence) against them will become increasingly worse.

I doubt that will ever happen. Too many Hispanic Americans have been brainwashed into thinking this is a struggle against their "people" or their "culture" by the racist la raza crowd. I try to point out that they are also Americans so they don't have their own "culture." It is just a Mexican or Spanish influenced form of American culture. La Raza continues to try to make this a race issue because that is the only way they will be able to get support. Those of us who are anti-illegal need to make it clear that this is a security issue not a race issue.

I don’t think it will happen either. To the detriment of many Hispanics, ethic pride trumps everything. They don’t realize (or don’t care) how volatile this issue is.
This most definitely is a national security issue, because we have no idea who is in our country, or what their intentions are.

I agree with all of you. The fact that elmuychingon insists on turning this into a matter of race as opposed to illegal immigration, serves as confirmation of their denial and inability to accept the reality, cause and effect of the current American anger and backlash.

Yes, and no one claims we don't already have enough home-grown criminals. We do and there is no good reason at all to import more violent criminals or allow other countries to dump their unwanted riff-raff here.
