While I don’t agree with everything in this article, I do agree that more attention must be given to U.S. citizens being displaced by illegal workers during a period of such high unemployment. Soon, those displaced workers may take matters into their own hands.

Quote:
While the recession has rattled every rung of economic ladder, it has ravaged the bottom bars.

Unemployment stands at just over 4 percent for college graduates but at nearly 15 percent for those lacking high-school diplomas. In poor black neighborhoods, it's around 30 percent and approaching Great Depression levels.

So let's talk about illegal immigration in a serious way. Even in good times, the large presence of undocumented workers hurts our low-skilled natives and legal immigrants. Given today's broken economy, it would seem unconscionable not to address the situation.

The advocates hold that rather than stop the flow of undocumented workers, the United States should just keep legalizing everyone. Their argument is as follows: Wages for low-skilled jobs are dismal because employers can exploit illegal workers. Make them legal, and companies would have to improve pay and working conditions for all.

There's some truth in that, but you can't get around basic labor economics. From heart surgeon to street sweeper, every worker is subject to the law of supply and demand. The more people there are after the same number of jobs, the less anyone has to pay them.

The story is sad but yet true.. Illegal Immigration hurts the lowest (and middle) economic rungs of the U.S. while only benefiting the elite.. Which is why I don't understand why liberals and progressives are so adament in defending the idea? I do know that Democratic politicians like Nancy Pelosi has a VESTED interest in defending illegal immigration as she employs illegals at her vineyard in Napa..

In the Central Valley in California, Merced County has an over 20% Unemployment rate, but yet a huge illegal alien population due to the agriculture and what was the Construction Industry boom during the Housing boom.. Even during the "Boom" Years, the Unemployment rate in Merced county was about 10% yet Illegal Aliens were still out helping to build homes, offices, etc..

The tipping point for the change in my views on Illegal Immigration came during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and hearing of the Construction companies that wanted to rebuild New Orleans and that they had been hiring Illegal Alien labor INSTEAD of New Orleans locals many of whom lost their homes, and everything that they had worked for..

Many working Americans are not able to make ends meet, pay their mortgage of their bills.. We have American Citizens that are living in "Tent Cities" and millions of Unemployed Americans who are more than willing and capable of working, but have yet to find a job.. Yet, Illegal Aliens are finding jobs in Construction, Manufacturing, Fast Food, Service, Hospitality, etc.. Sad.. It seems that nobody looks out for the American working class anymore..

I haven't the time just now to read the article, but the premise is a sound one.

We keep hearing that illegals do the jobs Americans won't do, as if all Americans are college graduates or even college material. And lets be clear - not being college material doesn't mean one is stupid, it merely means some people have other goals than working in a cubicle. Illegals are not only ursurping these jobs from Americans and legal immigrants, but they are also low balling them as well. Who can compete with a scab that doesn't care for benefits or safety standards in the work place much less a competitive wage?

For all our politicians wax poetic over the 'middle class', they certainly are doing their best to keep the middle class from growing, aren't they?

That entire situation is unconscionable. There were ample men (U.S. citizens) willing to work construction, but were denied because the companies preferred cheap illegal labor. As though it wasn’t bad enough losing their homes and livelihood, they added insult to injury by denying them the opportunity to help rebuild their communities. I’m so sick of hearing that same worn-out lie that they can’t find Americans to do the work, I could scream.

New Orleans is a prime example of what’s happening nationwide in many industries. Yet, we have U.S. citizens defending illegal immigration because the poor illegals are only trying to support their families. Well what about the poor U.S. citizens who would also like to support their families? Obviously, they aren’t as important as people who shouldn’t even be here. I don’t know how some people sleep at night.

No, this is basic criminality. Living and working in a foreign country without permission is illegal. Hiring illegal labor in order to make an extra buck is also against the law.

Capitalism is not about flouting the laws. Illegal immigration is all about flouting laws. See the difference?

Why some people can't understand the above is mind-boggling.

If you want to use that argument that the Illegal Aliens should be the first ones going to Cuba to get the taxpayer subsidized programs..

If you really want to play the "Capitalism Card", then maybe we should cut ALL benefits to Illegal Aliens AND the employers that enable them to be here..
