In my opinion, he did the right thing by quitting the job, if he really loves him they should marry in Mexico city where same-sex marriages are legal and apply for citizenship or at least permanent residence.

The problem is that his partner lived in the US illegally for 5 years. Thus, legally he should be banned from re-entry for 10 years. The mayor refuses to name his lover and thus is aiding and abetting a criminal. IMHO if it is love and not lust, he should marry him in Mexico and stay in Mexico with him. Neither of them are or should consider themselves above the laws of the US.

I agree, but if they avoided the law for 5 years I doubt they'll respect it now, a man in his position could have gone to Mexico and get the legal residence very easily, i have even less sympathy for people like that.

What is your problem? Are you racist or homophobic? Should you only fall in love if it is ok with the government? I know Mayor Lown and he spoke at my college graduation. He served in the Peace Corps, was a genuinely nice guy, a fiscal Republican mayor who helped our city. He only made $600 a year as mayor yet devoted hundreds of hours attending events and even paid his own to Washington D.C. yearly to talk with our state reps. He broke no laws, I repeat broke no, not one law. You can say he "aiding and abetting a criminal" but the law doesnt work that way. Your just using a phrase you have heard once in an ignorant way, the law that does not work that way. This is from a West Texan. Even we arent as close minded and ignorant as you.
