This is another example of our two-tiered legislative system.
Quote:
Immigrants don’t have to be U.S. citizens to be married in Nebraska, the ACLU says.
ACLU Legal Director Amy Miller has sent a “second and final warning” to officials in Lincoln, Phelps and Platte counties that their identification requirements are too stringent for marriage license applicants.
Lincoln County requires a photo ID -- for example, a driver’s license or passport -- according to requirements posted on the Lincoln County government website. Also, the social security numbers of both the bride and groom are requested.
The ACLU says those requirements are outside the law and “squarely target new immigrants.”
Immigrants, even if they are in the county illegally, are entitled to marry, Miller said.
Lincoln County Clerk Becky Rossell said the county requirements have been in place as long as she can recall in 19 years of work in the county clerk’s office.
The Nebraska Association of County Officials is handling the ACLU complaint, Rossell said. A meeting is expected next week.
“Hall County...has made all necessary changes to ensure fair procedures,” Miller said. Hall County no longer requires a Social Security number and now accepts a foreign passport as identification to get married.
How's this a "two-tiered legislative system" dear friend?
Apparently you don’t realize we have one set of laws for U.S. citizens, and another to accommodate illegal aliens. Mind you, these are people who should be arrested, not coddled. But, of course, according to your ‘logic’ we should bend over backwards to make their illegal presence in this country enjoyable. Next, it will be deemed discriminatory to require a birth certificate as proof of citizenship.

I agree with your points.
Coddling illegal aliens is discrimination-------------against Americans/green card holders who played by the rules.

The article you posted states nothing of illegal vs. legal. Simply a change of OVERALL procedure, maybe I'm missing something? However, just going by the article...buddy.

This is only one of many instances of established laws or policies being changed or ignored to accommodate illegal aliens; because, after all, it would be discrimination to actually expect illegals to abide by our laws. It was never a problem to require U.S. citizens to provide an SSN. Now, suddenly, they no longer require an SSN, for one reason alone -- because illegal aliens can’t legally obtain one. Why do we have laws if they will not be enforced, or if they will be changed whenever an illegal can’t or won’t comply?
If a U.S. citizen is caught using a fake or stolen identity, they will be prosecuted. Conversely, the courts have ruled that an illegal alien cannot be prosecuted unless he/she knew the identity belonged to an actual person. As I stated, we have a two-tiered legal system in this country; and it’s BS.

Very Well stated!!!!
The ACLU should take the American out of their name because it's obvious that they are promoting discrimination against Legal American citizens in our own country..

Furthermore, I am not your buddy.
Buddy,
You do realize that marriage is not the same as citizenship. It's just marriage. It's seems like this is in the same way Americans can get married in Mexico. My friends had a great wedding in Cabo San Lucas not too long ago. They're American. All you need is a passport and Mexican paperwork. Again, might be totally wrong there, friend, but it might be the same type of thing they're illustrating in this article..
Don't pout. It's all good.
