The Daily Citizen, Dalton, GA - Chambliss: immigration reform may have to wait

Quote:
President Barack Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., say they want to pass a comprehensive immigration reform law this year.

But Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., says he doesn’t see how Congress will have the time to take up such legislation

This is sort of run and gun system that Bababababama loves to use. He will push push push and blindly pass yet another piece of legislation on the premise that, "the future of our country depends on it" or "if we don't do this now the world will end tomorrow." Same as the TARP Bill. It will NEVER be read and probably passed with ease. Why?

BECAUSE IGNORANT AMERICANS ARE TOO FOCUSED ON POP CULTURE TO HAVE ANY CLUE WHY THEY EVEN GET UP AND GO TO WORK IN THE MORNING... other than to talk about last nights American Idol votes. Like lost little dogs they don't worry about the effects of lax immigration policy or the fact that a government buy up of the private sector, started by Bush, is going to kill this country one bailout at a time.

Pretty sad, just to have cheap produce picked we are willing to have 20 million come across, squat and claim ownage. They dare us to remove them because of sheer numbers. Our military is fighting the wrong war, it should be on our Southern border.

Amen to that! We have been invaded, and not a damn thing is being done.

Invaded is definitely the correct term for it. To state or think otherwise you're either an illegal alien or deaf, dumb, blind and crazy.

I agree with all three of you.

As to the bold, there are sadly many, many Americans who meet this criteria and refuse to accept the troubles caused by the criminal aliens as reality. Until we get to the point where more see the problem for what it is and can stop comparing anti-illegal to racist, I don't see much hope.

It will never happen, if they can't prove us wrong they will just have pop culture icons label us as something derogatory. It will become "kewl" to be pro-illegal. Wait and see.

I have to disagree there: the Civil Rights Movement of 50 years ago was a (successful) effort on the part of American Blacks to win full legal/social acceptance in the USA------------and, rightly so.

As for the (mostly Latino) illegal aliens; envision what I outlined in the above paragraph going in reverse. The illegals and their enablers have done a lot of damage to the image of at least Spanish speaking 'brown' Hispanics here in the USA (I am referring to legal ones here).

I don't really think so.

For one the hard working illegal who is willing to pick lettuce is getting old. That type is of an earlier generation that grew up working along side parents on farms and ranches -- that way of life is mostly gone. Remittance kids grow up materialistic or they are living here and growing up materialistic and used to the easy life. Children of illegals don't want to do those low paying jobs Americans don't want to do, they want to lay around in free colleges, being handed everything while Americans have to work for what they want.

The "dreamies" will be seen as arrogant and obnoxious, freeloaders who expect others to pay their way and they wouldn't dream of picking lettuce to pay their own tuition.

Plus the economy has a long way to go (down) before it gets better.

They haven't cut welfare programs yet, but eventually that's going to have to happen. The illegals will be the ones to scream the loudest, whine the whiniest when it comes to cuts being made. They will expect to see no cuts in food stamps, welfare, free school programs -- and that's going to bring hard feelings with Americans who are tightening their belts.

I do see your point. However I'm not sure that 50 years ago pop culture was what it has become in 2009. I hope you are correct. God knows i do. I just worry that if being pro-illegal gains traction with the so called "in" group we maybe be in for a real fight.

Or maybe I'm just being cynical.
