Why was Bracero started? It started in the 40's when all the men were at war and the US needed labor. The US needs unskilled labor now but where are the men here that can do it? They certainly are not all at war

So, flip side to this question...
If the United States reverted back to Ellis Island style immigration where all an immigrant has to do is show up at the border and pass a health inspection, would you welcome the new legal immigrants from Mexico and Central America?

Back in the days of Ellis island there weren't the issues of today's economy, overpopulation, crime and depleting natural resources. Plus, those immigrants learned English and assimilated. Apples to oranges.

No, they certainly are not at war. Nor, were they post-war until the inception of the illegal alien invasion. If you want to know where to find the unskilled legal workers; they have been replaced by dirt cheap unskilled illegal aliens. Thus, many are unemployed and are losing their homes, cars, and their dignity. Look under a few overpasses in major cities, and you will locate quite a few formerly ‘employed’ unskilled workers, interspersed among our numerous homeless veterans.

Well yeah, I wasn't comparing the situations. I was just using Ellis Island as a reference to the specific style of immigration.

First: those illegals presently here in the USA would need to leave, then get in line to return---------which would run most of 'em off.

If we sent all illegals back, made them get in line, added a criminal backround to the medical check, and we had a NEED for their line of work, then yes, I would be open to it.

I would add to that they would have to have the ability to support themselves and their family with no taxpayer funded assistance.

i dont generally ask my neighbors about their citizenship, especially if they are new.
so i dont know how i would know if they were illegal or not. and if i knew they were, it wouldnt make a difference.
what matters to me is being a good neighbor. curb your dog. no racous parties. mow your lawn. let me borrow some sugar. thats all i care about. lets be good neighbors.
thats what i would be looking out for.
not if they were legal, gay, black, muslim, or any other facet of life that can be used to view them prejudiciously.

So if they were illegal leeches on welfare, it wouldn't matter to you as long as they were good neighbors?
