Third year of fewer illegal immigrants caught
Quote:
McAllen — The number of Border Patrol apprehensions nationwide dropped for a third consecutive year, falling more than 17 percent to a level not seen since 1973, according to new government data.
The U.S. Border Patrol — charged with catching illegal immigrants near the nation's boundaries — had 724,000 apprehensions in 2008, according to the Department of Homeland Security's Office of Immigration Statistics. That's down from nearly 1.2 million in 2005.

The report cited the slow U.S. economy and tougher border security as possible factors contributing to the drop.

San Marcos Record, San Marcos, TX - Third year of fewer illegal immigrants caught
I'm hoping that this recession continues, at minimum, for the rest of 2009.

Any situation that helps to expose the dangers of excessive financial risk-taking, forces people to live within their means, exposes the impact of not adapting commercially, prevents the rewarding of illegal alien criminals, forces the scrapping of some govt. services to illegal alien criminals, etc. is worth praising in my mind.

As you stated.
Your comments also tie into my belief that the USA can do quite nicely without illegal alien criminals to care for us.

Cities with a large population of illegal immigrants have a higher than the national average rate of poverty, like Miami for example.
Miami poverty rate among highest in US, Census report says
Judging by their poverty rate, Miami did not become more 1st World with the large influx of illegal immgirant from Latin America.
