El Paso is three-quarters Hispanic, and more than a quarter of its residents are foreign-born. Given that it's nearly impossible for low-skilled immigrants to work in the United States legitimately, it's safe to say that a significant percentage of El Paso's foreign-born population is living here illegally.

El Paso is among the safest big cities in America,so how has this city of poor immigrants become such an anomaly? Actually, it may not be an anomaly at all. Many criminologists say El Paso isn't safe despite its high proportion of immigrants, it's safe because of them.

Many larger Cities at one point in their population count didn't have a gang problem. I'm sure the drug Czars in Baja are reading this article too.

Also, for every "El Paso" out there, there is another city with the opposite story...high numbers of illegals, and rampant crime. El Paso is the exception, not the rule.

Also, and probably most important, is that illegals don't call the police on each other....they don't want to risk deportation. The crimes are probably taking place, they're just not being reported.

For that matter; apparently El Paso is crawling with US law enforcement who would not hesitate to drop the hammer on drug cartels, etc.

Remember too; unlike Mexico, Americans in most places are allowed to be armed and Texas especially, has a 'castle law' that allows a homeowner to use deadly force against intruders.

The criminologist in this article is full of sh*t. Do you believe everything you read? Or are you just grasping at straws to further your pro-illegal agenda?

Miami has high crime, as does Los Angeles. Both cities have high numbers of illegals and gangs.
