The distressed economy is squeezing illegal Mexican workers out of their low-wage jobs in the United States. And under pressure from Congress, federal agents are moving aggressively to remove illegal immigrants who have committed a crime.

For decades, down-and-out Mexicans like these have gathered at the border trying to raise the money and the moxie to sneak over into el norte. But clearly, times have changed. There are more federal agents, more helicopters, more cameras and now, a border wall. Apprehensions along the Southwest border are down 27 percent in the past four years — a reflection, the government says, of how fewer people are trying to cross illegally.

And when the government refuses to do its job the economic conditions will do it for us.

Let's hope that this recession is prolonged for the rest of 2009 and until sometime in mid or late 2010.

Unless somebody who is a hardcore anti-illegal like Tom Tancredo or Michael Savage is elected as president of the United States, expecting every single one of the 12 million + illegals to be deported back to their home country is pretty much a pipe dream unfortunately.

Washington has way too many spineless politicians that do not want to "offend" the Hispanic community.

Uh; Washington may be wise in not offending the majority of Americans who are against any sort of amnesty---------even if it means throwing the self described 'Hispanic' community under the (political) bus. Face it: Obama has to answer to our American Black brothers and sisters as well and their numbers almost exactly equal those of the putative Latinos.

Yeah, because those idiot politicians think the anchor babies will grow up and vote for them. Jokes on them: A large percentage are in gangs or incarcerated or are illiterate by the time they reach voting age. Oh, wait, we're the ones who pay for it, making the joke on us.
