I did a google search for "anti-immigration." No surprise, but almost everything I found was about illegal immigration with the "illegal" part conveniently left out.

I explored a variety of links where anyone who was against illegal immigration was referred to as a "nativist" and the like.

When will people understand that illegal immigration and immigration are not terms that can be used interchangeably?

I think I learned it about five years ago. And it was a local school teacher that explained it to me...LOL

It doesn't matter in the minds of ethnocentric, pro-amnesty, and pro-illegal supporters.

If they can use vague language to negatively portray the other side it's a major benefit, especially if those doing so are far leftists who claim to advocate 'tolerance' while in essence advocating political intolerance.

It's ALWAYS necessary to bring up that fact whenever the ACLU, ADL, LULAC, MALDEF, NCLR, SPLC, etc. accuse anti-illegals of being 'anti-immigrant'.

How come most of these groups and people who say they are only anti- illegal immigration are against ALL forms of immigration? FAIR, NumbersUsa, CIS and people who support their cause are all anti-immigration because they oppose and want to stop all forms of immigration.

Well, that's a tad misrepresentative of what it is these groups actually advocate. They want a moratorium on all immigration until the current mess is cleaned up. The abeyance would not include those currently in the LEGAL immigration process.

Personally, I don't think that's a bad idea at all.

Then they shouldn't complain when they are labeled as anti-immigration.

There is a difference between wanting a temperary moratorium on immigration as per Kele's thoughts vs. a permanent ban.

Personally; I would like to see our immigration laws revert back to the pre 1965 quotas though.

What's your definition of temporary?

Until the unemployment rate is less than 3% ?
Until the current deficit spending/bailouts/stimulus packages show some positive results?

And besides, just what do we owe to people who wish to immigrate (legally) to the US ?

I think we should take care of ourselves first.

<<How come most of these groups and people who say they are only anti- illegal immigration are against ALL forms of immigration?>>

Because in the present situation, where there are 20 million illegal aliens residing in the country, we can't take in many more, legal or illegal. If we could get rid of the majority of illegal aliens, we could then concentrate on welcoming more legal immigrants. If your yard is overrun with a certain type of plant, you don't plant more.
