News : Cops nab 18 illegal aliens heading into Safford - Eastern Arizona Courier (http://www.eacourier.com/articles/2009/07/09/news/breaking_news/doc4a56759c7d12d940179502.txt - broken link)

Sometimes federal programs work the way they should. That was the case Thursday morning when two officers working a federally funded illegal immigration stakeout pulled over a van full of undocumented aliens.

Safford officer Luke Arbizo was working with Pima officer Stirling Shupe on the stakeout, labeled Stonegarden, when they pulled over a van near milepost 115, south of Roper Lake at about 7:15 a.m.

According to Safford Captain Dennis Whisman, the occupants of the van, later identified as 18 undocumented aliens, immediately ran from the scene in three groups. Sheriff P.J. Allred and undersheriff Jeff McCormies happened to be in the area headed to a meeting when the call for officer assistance went out. Allred and McCormies spotted a group of 12 UDAs on a mesa and were able to head them off. They ordered the subjects to sit on the ground and awaited assistance from other law enforcement officers who were chasing the group from the opposite direction.

Obviously it's time to go back to the old fleeing felon rules of engagement, at least at or near the border. If they flee they must be a felon, right?

No doubt LaRaza calls this profiling, but it seems to me when an officer stops a vehicle, and 18 people jump out and run, it's a pretty good sign they're illegal alines.

Some proj-illegal will claim that the relatives living illegally here will now not cooperate with Police because they no longer trust them. I for one say, ok. I can live with that.

Will you be ok with that if the only witness to the murder/rape/theft/etc. of someone you care or yourself would not come forward with information that would lead to the capture of the perpetrator because they fear the police?
