Default Colorado to screen all arrestees for immigration statuses

Quote:
DENVER (AP) - Colorado law enforcement agencies will be able to quickly identify illegal immigrants at the time of arrest under a program that gives states access to federal immigration and criminal databases.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Secure Communities program allows police to check fingerprints of people under arrest against FBI criminal history records and Department of Homeland Security immigration records.

Good.

I'm hoping that it's extended to all of the police departments in the southern border states in a few months.

It is coming, it is coming-----------despite the best efforts of Nappy trying to stop it.

This is as it should be. When someone is arrested, they're screened to see if they've commited any other crimes which they might be wanted for. Being in the US illegally is just another crime, so why should they skate by without being screened for immigration violations?

Why not!!!!...If you are walking down a dark street at 3 AM and are stopped by a Police vehicle who asks for a ID and why you are there at that time of the morning...you should have a Legal Resident form of ID...or maybe a Passport to show that your here in the country legally.

None of the above...chances are you are in the country ILLEGALLY.

They're only going to screen those arrestees who are arrested and booked into a prison, not those whom they meet directly in public.

Did you even READ the article?

Are you really suggesting that you should be O.K. with being stopped and questioned by the police just for walking around at 3AM, and have to come up with a "valid" reason?

And what would that Legal Resident form of ID would be? A drivers license (like the one IAs can get in Washington or New Mexico), or a Passport (like the one IAs can get at their corresponding Embassy/Consulate). What document do you carry around that says that you are a legal resident? Since DL can be obtained by IAs. Do you carry your U.S. passport on a day to day basis?

Yes.

And make damn sure that you or I have either a DL or at least some other form of valid ID.

I sure as hell would not be out @ 3 AM without the above.

That provision is permissive, not directive. It will be only as good as state, county and municipal agencies enforce it. It won't make a bit of difference in "sanctuary" cities.

Yes, I would be OK with it.

The world sleeps at night. If your out and about at 3am, you have a job to do, which is verifiable, or your up to no good.

If it meant for a safer society, yes, ask me what I'm doing at 3 am walking the streets.

Sure there are places that never sleep, like New York city, but that is not the normal American city.
