Interesting that even today there seems to be far more anti-illegal sentiment from SoCal than NorCal. My guess is because NorCal has been doing VERY SLIGHTLY better than SoCal recently.

you are so right. I was happy to vote for 187 when it was on the ballot back then. i had worked for a Medi-Cal HMO in 1991 and saw so many illegals and their spawn milking the system that we workers had to pay for thru our taxes. It really opened my eyes as to what was going on. It has only gotten worse as more of them have kept coming.
Much of the problem is that while Mexico has a large and fast growing middle class, the type of people coming most often don't want to make the life-style choices that it takes to become middle class in Mexico. They would have to stay in school, get an education, delay childbearing and limit family size which is what it takes to be middle class in Mexico. Instead they can come to the USA, have all the babies they can't afford here and live like queens and never have to worry about working.

It's been expressed on this VERY forum that "illegals caused this recession" or that "illegals will lead us to economic ruin"...this is called scapegoating. You picked a group (illegal immigrants) causing a certain event (economic recession or ruin).

It could be the numbers are more indicative of a population that realizes it's paying out much more for illegal aliens than they contribute.
Then why not during the peak of the illegal immigrant population (during the economic boom)? Historically, during periods of economic turmoil this occurs...During the great depression, there were movements of this sort...Operation WB corresponds to the recession of 1953-1954. Prop 187 happened during a recession. The point is that during economic turmoil, more people are afraid and want answers and solutions. Any answer and any solution...doesn't matter if it's the right answer or solution.
