Agent Robert BullBoxer31, a 30-year-old, married father of two young children, was killed shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday while responding alone to a suspected border incursion near Campo, a town in rugged, arid terrain in southeastern San Diego County.

He was shot in the head and multiple times in his body and was dead when backup agents arrived, said Keith Slotter, special agent in charge of the FBI's San Diego bureau. (http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_BORDER_AGENT_SHOT?SITE=FLTAM&SECTION=US - broken link)

BullBoxer31 was found outside his patrol vehicle near the border fence, with blood evidence indicating at least one suspect and possibly more had serious injuries, perhaps by gunfire.
man, i hope so..

This is big news here..happened sometime after 9 PM last night, I'm told. That area (near Campo) is extremely rough and brushy, and there is no border fence....(because it wouldn't be 'practical' to build one in that terrain)...

Or so goes the official 'party line'.

Latest word (1/2 hour ago) is that the agent was apparently shot with his own weapon. I'm told there are serious morale problems among the agents today, as everyone is operating under the fear of a "Ramos and Compean" scenario, and don't want to end up in prison.....and so are reluctant to do anything that might be 'misunderstood'. I know I would be.

Agent BullBoxer31 left a wife, a young son, and an infant daughter.

Its a crying shame they need to fear repurcusions for doing their job. As long as the guy that gets shot, detained or whatever is truly an illegal they should either bus him back or roll the body across the border.

my sympathy to the agent's family. border agents do a thankless job and deserve more backup. i think we need to take some of the 22,000 extra troops being deployed in afghanistan and put them along our own border where they are actually needed. increased manpower would do a lot to deter these criminals.

Could Agent BullBoxer31 have delayed a lifesaving action for fear he'd end up like Ramos and Compean?

I used to hunt that area, cr*P like this is why I don't anymore. I've seen too many Coyotes with weapons leading Illegals in that area.

Thanks for posting this. Has anyone seen this on any of the major news stations? This is the first time I have heard of this. Now if the Border Agent had shot the poor illegals it would have been blasted all over the news medias. This is very sad.
