Drop in crime coincides with exodus of illegal aliens

A marked drop in Phoenix-area crime coincides with the recession and a drop in the number of illegal immigrants in Arizona.
Phoenix has seen a 25 percent decline in the number of crimes during the first five months of 2009 compared to the same time period in 2007 when the economy began to slow. Violent crime in Phoenix is down 12 percent, according crime statistics from the Phoenix Police Department

Drop in crime coincides with exodus of illegal immigrants - Phoenix Business Journal:

Yeah,they cause no trouble

Let's hope that this recession continues until 2010 not only so that the illegal alien population declines even further but so that unemployment rises and thus making amnesty less desirable.

Poverty = crime. We've been allowing the import of poverty for about 30 years via people running across the border. Bye bye crime.

Indeed.

I think that this recession is already giving way to enough homegrown poverty and I doubt that we need more of it sneaking across the borders or overstaying visas.

May there be many more returns to Mexico, etc.

Note that I live in Maricopa County and I have seen the dramatic improvement with my own two eyes. The illegals that are left are scared to death that ICE is gonna git 'em.

Remember: Correlation does not imply causation!

I would not be surprised if the drop is crime is because of illegal aliens leaving the area. Which areas saw the most crime? Were those areas known to have a very high concentration of illegal aliens. What is the crime rate in those areas now? You have to look at all the facts before drawing this conclusion.

In a downward economy, statistically crime rates have gone up.

Yet, here is just the opposite. That tells you just how big the problem was.

Wonderful!

Now if only every state could follow with tough anti-illegal policies similar to AZ's.

Not surprising at all. Less criminals less crime. Makes perfect sense no matter how you look at it.
