Not all but very much, of course.
That has no direct relationship with the lawsuit and the $157,000 they were awarded.

They even annoyed President Bush, whose only public mention of them was to call them 'vigilantes'....I'd call them nothing of the sort (vigilantes HURT people). I'd compare the Minutemen more to a Neighborhood Watch group...or just busybodies.

In THEORY, the San Diego chapter had the right to request a 'cleanup' area in their neighborhood. At first, intense pressure from NCLR, et al, forced officials to DENY them any such area...and finally, they WERE awarded an area, but it was far out in a rural area of remote Eastern San Diego County.

The Minutemen got "mad", and sought redress in court. SHOULD they have done this? I don't know....but I don't see their case as any less meritorious than any OTHER punitive lawsuit. We live in a litigious society...and when we want to get even, we SUE. That's all we can do, under our laws.

Was this a "good" lawsuit? I don't know. MANY of them aren't, that's for sure..
I can understand why MALDEF and those who are enamored of the illegals do not like the Minutemen. After all, if the idea catches on there will be millions of largely elderly citizens with nothing but time on their hands swarming to the border to keep an eye out for illegals. The majority are probably quite handy with a pair of binoculars after years of snooping on their neighbors. Now, instead of waiting to catch the neighborhood kids running through their petunias, they will watch for illegals sneaking into the US. If they spot one, they can call the BP.

caller: Young man!.....young man!..... someone is trying to swim across the river.............how am I supposed to know what my location is?... I'm in the desert!.. In Texas............I think.

caller: (covers the phone with her hand) Alfred! Are we in Texas?!

Alfred: huh?

voice in the background: I think we are in New Mexico

caller: Well, let's get out a map and look......

etc.

When the traffic is slow, they can sit around and play bridge or discuss their medical problems.
I think I will recommend this to my mother in law.

Again, no direct relationship to the $157,000 lawsuit. There is no distress there. I fail to see the your point.

By all means tell your grandmother, just don't tell her to sue the state for a senseless issue as this one. Can anyone say, another JACKPOT!?

If the pro Illegal groups didn't get their underwear all bunched up in the first place, left this stupid situation untouched, there wouldn't have been a suite.

Do you want the MM on the side of the highway cleaning trash or on the border helping catch Illegals?

Personally I want them doing both!

I'm new to this site but I like what I see. My roomie turned me on to it. If I can ever get him off the pc long enough to use it myself.

In order to help avert potential dustups like this in the future, you could volunteer to act as a liason between the two groups.

For once I agree with someone! You are right about the pros starting the fight. I still don't think it was right to take $157,000 from our state and tax payers.

Thank you

Add it to the list of garbage the tax payers get stuck with. Both sides are using the tax payers as pawns while the immigrants walk. I don't get it.

Charity huh?
I believe that's because the majority of people in this country (at least yet) are citizens but immigrants receive a disportionate amount of welfare handouts and of course the Medicaid referred to as Emergency Medicaid which is all about free health care to immigrants, mostly illegal.

Would your other country accept Americans who needed government handouts but are in Mexico illegally? Or would your other country even accept impoverished Central Americans who needed government handouts?

Of COURSE it's a jackpot. Most of these lawsuits are. This one happens to be a very TINY jackpot, as jackpots go. It it "right", in a state going bankrupt? Probably not....but I'm sure the legislature goes through $157,000 in just a few 'catered luncheons'....or 'fact-finding junkets to Asia' (complete with wives, secretaries, spa privileges, and golf clubs).

Really, this is small change. It may be 'sleazy', but why should The Minutemen be held to any higher standard than any of the OTHER beneficiaries of all this 'largesse' on the part of the taxpayer?
