This article is a breath of fresh air. The true facts coming from sources like Homeland Security, Public Policy Institute of California, US Census Bureau and Pew HC.

Quote:
The most extreme among them call the illegals' presence an invasion, often claiming it's a government-backed movement by Mexicans to take back the vast American Southwest, lost to Mexico in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo that ended the Mexican-American War in February 1848. But the latest numbers on illegal immigration activity and movements demonstrate that most undocumented workers coming to this country are here principally for one reason: work.
Does the first sentence sound familiar? "an invasion" is something Dobbs would use too...extremists.

It turns out that when illegal immigrants can't earn money here, they move away no matter what public benefits they might receive if they stay. So invasion and nationalistic desire for territory apparently never had much to do with illegal immigration. Rather, it's always been about jobs and the money those jobs allow immigrants to send their children and families who stay behind.
These are real facts.

Here are some of the new facts:
Apprehensions of illegal immigrants along the border are off 34 percent over the last two years, down to 662,000 in 2008 from the peak of about 1 million in 2004, according to the Border Patrol. While 35 percent of new immigrants - legal and illegal - at least initially settled in California during the 1980s, by 2007 that figure had dropped to 19 percent, according to a study by the Public Policy Institute of California.

That doesn't mean that a great majority of them aren't taking advantage of benefits like a public education for their anchor babies or healthcare.

Part of the definition of invasion is " gaining concessions from said government". That pretty much sums up the whole anchor child plus stealing social services get up. We know why they come but that doesn't excuse their existence here. Especially after the chain of illegal events they produce. Trespassing, identity theft, taking away a job from an American, skipping out paying taxes, driving without a license then to add insult to injury, sending that money home where it will never be seen here again.

These are also "TRUE FACTS"!

No invasion eh? Just think if we didn't have the BP arresting 1 million "invaders" a year? Did anyone just see that video of about 100 students bum rushing a convenience store? They looted everything.

1 million Illegals a year would look just like that video and the nightmare video would never end. It would be like locust.

Take the work away, along with the 14th amendment and what will happen?

Is it really that simple?

Yes it is really that simple.

Invasion is a large number of unathorized persons entering a country without permission. It doesn't have to be an armed military one to be called an invasion. It doesn't matter what their reasons are whether it be for work or an intent to take over the country (and both apply here) it is still an invasion!

If all they did was work things might be different. This is one more reason we must have a worker permit program like they have in Canada. There each alien gets a permit to work a job. With it he can be held accountable for paying taxes and not allowed to quit and free lance work anywhere he wants to. Also the employers MUST verify the permit before they can hire them and if they dont THEY are arrested and fined. This system works well and our government must think we are fools when they tell us they cant control the illegals..CANADA HAS,,,,,,,,go figure.

I suspect Canada is dealing with a different kind of people. There is no way a worker permit program could succeed in the US unless we brought in workers from other parts of the world. The illegal aliens we have now would simply disappear when it was time for them to leave. A work visa program can only succeed when both parties follow the rules.

For some reason, your post strikes a chord with me. I've often thought MOST of the arguments on both sides of the illegal debate are little more than ethnocentric 'BS', false compassion, guilt, racism, anger, frustration, "tribalism", etc etc etc.

The fact is that MOST of this controversy is overblown side issues. You could envision a system wherein the US said "no more!...PERIOD!..the NEXT illegal immigrant we catch is GOING TO PRISON"....and yet, even so, if you offered WORK..at a fair wage..ANY kind of work....doing ANYTHING...and you insisted the workers come here ALONE....and if you made absolutely CERTAIN that they left at the end of their "gig"..the fact is that you'd STILL have people in tough situations in Third-World societies LINING UP to apply for these temporary jobs here in the US...and they'd be GLAD for the work, and they wouldn't feel "abused" when they left, they'd be happy for the money they took home...and probably try to do it all OVER again, in a year or two.

AS to WHY people come here illegally...I don't care...any more than I care why people cheat on exams, or steal, or fail to pay their rent, or use drugs, or drive without insurance. All I know is you can't DO these things, if you expect to live in an orderly, decent society. WHY people find themselves "doing" these things is a subject for a whole different book...and whether they're "good" people, or "bad" people, to me, is quite beside the point.
