And I agree with Mr Herrera 100% The USA is a WASP country culturally speaking and I; despite being a putative 'minority' (1/4 Irish and 1/2 Hungarian heritage)----------self identify with the dominant culture.
According to who is the US a WASP country? Who dictated this?
This is what gets me about these pro-illegal, ethnocentric racists. They think it racist for Americans to want to retain their identifying Anglo-culture in this country and yet they would be adamant about retaining the Hispanic culture in Mexico. Nothing but hypocrites! No country wants to lose it's identifying culture through illegal immigration and it certainly doesn't make them racists for holding that view.
There are no Hispanics in Mexico. They are Mexican nationals. Last I checked, there were approximately 3-4% illegal immigrants, hardly a big percentage to say that they would be a threat to taking or loosing the US culture.
IMO, wanting to keep America white is the same as being an ethnocentric.
Nothing hypocritical there at all-----when in Rome: do as the Romans do.
That is not exactly what the Anglos did when they reached the Americas, did they?...
In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with labeling yourself a WASP. However, I believe it to be an ethnicity, rather than a culture. An ethnicity that has influenced American culture. I actually find it insulting to African Americans and to Native Americans who also have their own distinct culture. Why would they be forced to give up their culture, identity and ethnicity? Why would they be forced to adopt to another ethinicity that certainly does not identify them? I certainly do not identify with WASP.
We will become one culture, one ethnicity but I believe that it will take time just like it took time for Caucasians to mix, when people of color where not allowed to mix.

Another member of this forum, a few weeks ago had defined WASP for me. I wanted to respond to his post because he made an excellent post but when I returned a few days later, I could not remember which thread the post was under. I hope he returns and posts on this thread.
I think it is an excellent idea to start a thread over the controversy of WASP. However, I strongly believe it will turn into a racial thing but would be interesting to read people's responses. I would suggest the Great Debates board. Not only should the thread include was is liked or disliked about assigning WASP to be the only US culture, we should also include WHY non-WASP Americans should label themselves as such and discard their current identifying culture.
