Well, he didn’t kill anyone this time, so I guess he has earned the right to stay. I’m sure he is also hoping for the passage of the DREAM Act. Given that “good moral character” is purportedly a requirement, he should qualify with flying colors.

Rigo Padilla, the undocumented student whose fight to stay in the country has ignited a movement on his behalf, says he has been allowed to stay in the United States for one more year.

The apparent reprieve -- which U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement would not immediately confirm -- came less than a week before Padilla, 21, was supposed to leave Dec. 16 for his native Mexico, where he hasn't been since he was 6.

"It's official," Padilla said this morning after his lawyer met with immigration officials in Chicago. He smiled ear-to-ear as he held up a letter from ICE confirming his application for a one-year stay was granted.

Padilla's immigration status was discovered when he was arrested for drinking and driving earlier this year. The decision to stay the deportation of came during a meeting with ICE officials in Chicago today.

"Now let's get solutions for the whole nation and not do this on a case-by-case basis," Hoyt added, referring to promises by Obama that federal immigration reforms are a high priority.

This boils my blood. It’s just one more travesty, and one more IA drunk driver permitted to remain in this country. Not only is he permitted to stay, so is his entire immediate family. This is just another slap in the face for citizens.

I do not think the "DREAM ACT" will pass. Quite a few of its supporters lost/retired in 2008 and even more may retire/are viewed as highly vulnerable in 2010.

The following are supporters of it that have retired/may retire/are highly vulnerable

Craig R-ID
Salazar D-CO
Hegal R-NE
Brownback R-KS
Hutchenson (running for governor) R-TX
Lincoln D-AR (highly likely to lose in 2010)
Coleman R-MN
Obama D-Il
Martinez R-Fl
Clinton D-NY
Biden D-DE

Some like Coleman, Obama and Clinton were/will likely be replaced by other pro DREAM act people others like Craig, Hegal, Brownback and potentially Lincoln not so much...I do not see it passing.

this is a bit crazy.
i stated in the previous related thread that this clown shouldnt be the poster child for whatever immigration reform group was championing his cause.

i dont know how it happened, but the LEGAL process is being carried out.

i have no intimate knowledge of the hearings or judgements, i can only accept the decision.

what can i really do anyways.
its just silly that this drunk bozo would get a reprieve. hes a drunk driver!!!

They needed someone to replace that woman holed up in some church for over a year. She didn't make the greatest poster child for the illegal movement, plus she ended up getting deported, so they found a drunk driver instead.

Arellano? She was a true piece of work----------and, richly deserved to be deported. Insolent loser.

Give him time, he's only 21. I am confident this exemplary individual will have many more years of drunk driving in the US during which he can kill an actual American or two.

Hopefully; if driving drunk again, Padilla will wrap himself (alone) around a light pole alone and have his body returned to Mexico.
