· All individuals who work in the United States are required to pay federal income taxes. The only exception is if they are exempted due to their level of earnings, a provision of the tax code that results in no taxes, or a bilateral tax treaty.

· Significant total taxes are paid by immigrants. Immigrant households paid an estimated $133 billion in direct taxes to federal, state, and local governments in 1997, according to a study by Cato Institute economist Steve Moore.

· State level tax payments approximate natives. Immigrants in New York State pay over $18 billion a year in taxes, over 15 percent of the total, and roughly proportional to 3 their size in the state’s population, according to a study by the Urban Institute. Average annual tax payments by immigrants are approximately the same as natives—$6,300 for immigrants versus $6,500 natives.

· Long-run benefit. The National Academy of Sciences concluded that “Over the long run an additional immigrant and all descendants would actually save the taxpayers $80,000.”

It is not true that immigrants take jobs away from Americans. Here’s why:
· Immigrants do not increase unemployment among natives. A study by economists Richard Vedder, Lowell Gallaway, and Stephen Moore found that states with relatively high immigration actually experience low unemployment. The economists believed that it is likely immigration opens up many job opportunities for natives.

Here are the facts on immigration statistics:
· The number of immigrants living in the United States remains relatively small as a percentage of the total population. While the percentage of U.S. residents who are foreign-born is higher today than it was in 1970 (currently about 11 percent), it is still less than the 14.7 percent who were foreign-born in 1910.

· The annual rate of legal immigration is low by historical measures. Only 3 legal immigrants per 1,000 U.S. residents enter the United States each year, compared to 13 immigrants per 1,000 in 1913.

· Immigrant children learn English. In San Diego 90 percent of second-generation immigrant children speak English well or very well, according to a Johns Hopkins University study. In Miami the figure is 99 percent.

**Even Sebastian Lantos, of The Coalition of Hispanic Organizations says he, too thinks immigrants should learn English, but it's not a matter of not wanting to. “The reason they probably can’t do that is because they’re working 12-15 hours a day, from sunset to sunrise, and there’s nothing organized for them to go and study.”*******************

Good points. They don't pay federal income tax. They declare 5 or 6 dependents and very little if any taxes is taken out of their paychecks. When the IRS comes looking for them they simply disappear and steal another job elsewhere with someone else's social security number.

The law going into place in November is good legislation. Washington needs to pass something similar on a national level.

Nope, I disagree. They are a leach on society, and every respectable source documents that. They don't belong here and they should have their assets seized, be thrown in jail, then deported.

I can't just list 5, but I agree with most have said if not more. They do suck the tax payers dry.

But my top five reason for not liking illegals are:

1. They are all criminals.
2. They take jobs Americans want and need.
3. There are so many of them here they drive down wages in entry level jobs.
4. They suck up tens of thousands of dollars in benefits without contributing.
5. They offer nothing to America economically. The only people who are allowed in should be educated people America needs, not illiterate border jumpers who sneak into the country in the dead of night.

My next door neighbor is Hispanic. I love those people. Hard working with
the nicest yard on the block. With that said. the ILLEGALs who have come into Oklahoma and OKC where I live are pulling us down! It will stop on Nov.1,2007 though. the people of the great state of Oklahoma have spoken. Thieves will not take over.We have learned from our past. No group takes over, in our state. we work, we vote, we except.

I don't need a list of reasons. Those in this country illegally are not guests of the country, and they need to be taken to the front door and removed.
