I wonder if the election of a new President in 2008 who actually supports strong border security would make a difference. Does the President of the United States have the authority to bring the Armed Forces to the Border in high enough numbers to actually secure it? Would the President need permission of Congress to close the border?

Bush could close the border today if he wanted to.... So why do we need to wait until 2008?

If current laws were enforced, along with the 700 mile fence which has already been passed into law, but not built, illegal immigration would slow to a trickle rather than the flood stage it has currently reached.

That's right Kele......we don't need new legislation, we need to enforce the legislation we already have and make sure the funds are in place to enforce it.

Enforce the laws we have. It shouldn't even be up to the President, as he isn't in charge of enforcing laws. It starts much lower than that.

Yes George Benedict Bush could secure the border today without the permission of congress. He could pull the troops out of Iraq and station them right on the border.

It could be done, but will that fix the problem? I mean, if you look around at how many illegal alien sympathisers there are, and then there is the bribery and corruption to deal with, would putting troops on our border really stop the problem? We have to stop it here behind the lines too. Enforce the law.

Putting the troops on the border would stop illegal immigration. To stop employers from hiring illegals we would have to start throwing them in prison and seizing assets with RICO type laws.

Default we need

A strong president? We have one, it is just that he fights hard for what he wants and thinks is right NOT what the people want and know is right
