I'm in total agreement with this statement. I also agree our borders need to be patrolled by our military as well as allowing any source necessary to stop the invasion of criminals.

Also, fighting a nation on another continent is different than fighting the nation right next door.

Militarizing the border that we share with Mexico could be considered an escalation. It has the high potential to leading to more problems.
1500 people a day crossing is equivalent to a batallion in the military. No way in war time would we allow this to happen.
In war or not it's hurting the US and using the military to stop it should be an option. We have no idea who is coming across our border.
Mexico has essentially declared war on us by their citizens violating our borders en masse on a daily basis. Putting the military on our border is justified. I don't condone violence however unless it is absolutely necessary. As you said, the danger of criminals, drug cartels and terrorists entering are also of great concern.
