You'd better check again. Here in the southwest there is hardly a town that isn't being flooded with Spanish speakers both legal and illegal. As I said, I would expect to hear a foreign langauge in an ethnic "business" town like Koreatown. Koreatown is not mainstream America. When I see my local hospital's births 3/4's of the babies have Hispanic surnames. Don't know how many are from illegal parents but ethnically do the math.
I live in suburban LA...it's not ALL white in the suburbs. There are still a myriad of languages spoken in nicer areas of Los Angeles. In the land of planned communities and gated golf courses, you hear people spoke other languages.

So you've never been to Westminster, Garden Grove, Chino Hills, Irvine, or really any other suburb of Los Angeles? If you have you'd hear A LOT of Korean, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Spanish, Armenian, and Hebrew.
