It creates enforcement by attrition," Jorgenson told the Senate State Affairs Committee. "When people know we have this kind of structure in place, they leave the state or they don't come."
Jorgenson's measure would require employers after Jan. 1, 2011, to confirm a worker's eligibility through the federal "E-Verify" system. Violators would face fines of up to $50 a day per worker, up to $50,000. His bill goes even further: Written driver's license tests would be given in English only -- no interpreters allowed.
rewarding good behavior and punishing bad behavior. what a novel concept in this country! THUMBS WAY UP!
Most LEGAL immigrants aren't unskilled labour, so I doubt they'll be picking your crops anytime soon. There are STANDARDS for legal immigrants that ILLEGAL aliens don't have to meet (like TB checks for example)
Its pretty cool seeing this post, I was an intern for Sen. Jorgenson last session. A good old man he is too, awesome guy to work for.
The same bill came up last year but was killed in commitee by one Rep. Raul Labrador (R), an immigration attorney from Meridian. He is in the pocket of the United Dairyman's Council, who have a huge presence in his district, and actually had a section on their website on how to avoid getting caught by immigration. This was on the site until the good Sen. Jorgenson called them out on it.
Now Rep. Labrador is running as a conservative, playing up to the tea bagger base, for US congress in a crowded GOP primary field against Democrat Walt Minnick, and may win. Rep. Labrador is a bought and paid for politician who law firm makes money trying to skirt US immigration law. Just had to take the chance throw in my two cents about a popular commitee chair, who has thwarted Sen. Jorgenson before.
Don't get too excited about this bill, big Ag runs Idaho, and they like their cheap labor.
How do you want your food picked, by a sterile machine or by people who don't even have access to a toilet, soap and clean water?
The picture of poverty reject illegal 3rd worlders with dirty finger nails taking a dump in the potato fields, wiping their azzes off with their hands, rinsing their hands off with a little water and then resuming potato picking makes one want to by pass McDonalds altogether. Was that a little too graphic for most pro illegal sympathisers/appologizers/aiders/abetters?
