More than 20 illegal immigrants held in NW Harris | Chronicle | Chron.com - Houston Chronicle

Quote:
The men worked at construction sites while the women were employed as maids to pay off the cost of transporting them into the United States.
Their debt was as high as $9,000, deputies said.
The front door was padlocked and the windows painted over when deputies moved in at about 3 p.m.
“We didn't find any armed guards,” Romine said.
A handful tried to flee but were apprehended. They asked the deputies not to notify federal immigration agents.
It goes on to say:

Quote:
The man who lived at the home was gone when deputies arrived. Agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement were questioning his pregnant wife late Tuesday.
Paramedics checked the immigrants, who appeared to be in relatively good health, deputies said.
"They didn't seem to be malnourished or underfed," Romine said.
Ruben Ramirez, who lives next door, was stunned to see almost two dozen people being led out of his neighbor's home in handcuffs
So, my question. The caller says a member "escaped". From what? Seems to me they had free run while being "held captive", for at least one, 4 years. Although smuggling occurs as well as slavery, I think this is just ANOTHER case of over housed illegal aliens trying to stay undetected. The "caller" used a terrific ploy in claiming they were being held captive to gain attention to them and hope more start using their brains to get around an issue of being too small to investigate.

I know slave houses exist. I doubt this was one, just another group of illegals lumped in one house. Criminals will say anything to get sympathy hoping for a break from being prosecuted.
