An income tax fraud scheme discovered during a drug raid Thursday night is expected to lead to hundreds of thousands of dollars in illegal tax refunds.
“I wouldn’t be surprised it went into the millions,” Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin said during a news conference Friday.
It is believed Bodden was filing income tax returns from her mobile home, primarily tax returns for illegal immigrants, and claiming the first-time home buyers tax credit of $8,000.
“This was a very organized and elaborate tax fraud scheme,” Entrekin said.
Records to confirm about $200,000 in tax refunds were discovered.
Agents found one instance in which a person’s refund was about $12,000 and she made $2,700.
District Attorney Jimmie Harp gave an example of one tax return in which a person believed to be in the U.S. illegally made $6,000 last year and got a $13,000 refund using the tax credit.
This just makes me sick, especially since we were robbed and SS card along with passport and license were among things stolen. Crooks sure can be creative. Good thing this group was stopped.
This happened a couple years back in Greeley, CO. too. They had a whole network of people using fake SS#s to get refunds. The article said it targeted people who file late or with extensions from previous years. The Illegal scum is long gone before the real owner of the SS# files.

Three children under the age of 4 were in the mobile home when agents raided it Thursday night and the Etowah County Department of Human Resources was called.

Ms. Bodden illegally entered our country from where? "Agents found one instance in which a person’s refund was about $12,000 and she made $2,700." Not bad for a good ol' American.
Note, please, that this particular tax credit (I have no idea how it is recorded/enforced) is new, and has nothing to do with the whinging about illegals above or in the archives.
EDIT: On further reflection, Bodden, a presumed US person, is the "ringleader" in this case. The il/legal immigrants here likely had no idea that [how] they were being used by Bodden. I've filed taxes for years and know nothing about this tax credit.
Bodden [presumably your "typical American"] "was [allegedly] profiting by filing the returns and charging 25 percent of the tax refund. The refunds were deposited into a bank account over which she had control."
Yeah, you gotta crack down on the foreigners before real Americans think it's OK to break the law. Better get on that real quick, ma'am.

Oh please. Are they so naive that they don’t even know their own address? Do you actually believe they “thought” they owned a nonexistent house? I suppose they also “made a mistake” when they used the SSN of their children, or stole an ID.
This isn’t some isolated incident in which the poor illegals are being duped by some savvy evil American. Tax fraud among illegals is widespread, and is only one of many methods they use to defraud millions from the taxpayers of this country.
Yes, we do have citizens who commit tax fraud. Does that give a green light to illegals? Is this another “well, citizens also commit crimes” argument? There are myriad articles available on the internet, if you dare to search.
Assuming you ARE a taxpayer, I would think you would consider fraud from any source rather disturbing. Apparently not.
