Ok, so now all an illegal has to do to qualify for a “crime victim” U Visa is to cooperate with authorities investigating “workplace violations?” I guess the authorities are willing to overlook the fact that the law is violated by their mere presence; not to mention, their employment using a fake or stolen SSN.

SAN FRANCISCO – Immigrants who have been victims of crimes and help authorities prosecute perpetrators can now get help from the U.S. Labor Department with their applications for a special type of visa.

Investigators of workplace violations have been authorized to certify applications for a U visa to stay in the country, U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis said.

To qualify for the visas, immigrants have to show they suffered a specific crime such as sexual assault or being forced to work without pay, and show they helped law enforcement in their investigation.

From the back of the SS card:
Improper use of this card and/or number by the number holder or any other person is punishable by fine, imprisonment, or both.

Whatever became of that?

There was no distintion in the article or law that the U-visa was given to persons that used fake or stolen SSN.

Thats a embellishment not based in fact.

How, pray tell, does an illegal alien work in this country without either using a fake or stolen SSN, or committing tax evasion by working under the table?

No, it’s not embellishment; it’s fact.

Doesn't really matter whether they worked by using a SSN that didn't belong to them or were paid under the table. This will just allow them one more scam to be able stay in this country.

Absolutely! No doubt, they’ll start coming out of the woodwork to report their employers for “workplace violations.” I suppose next they’ll get a U Visa if their landlord fails to repair a leaky faucet. This is total BS.

they are pretty strict with these and only give them to those who can make the strongest case for the prosecution. the majority of those involved will not get these visas, unless it the violations were severe and widespread.
lose ofwages isnt that serious. they can make a case with a few people. i dont think this will be a backside avenue for citizenship...
