There is no mention in the article that the pilot was illegally in the country. This is not an illegal immigration issue.

A Mexican military helicopter is never here legally except in very rare situations where they might be invited in for some reason. This pilot did come over the border illegally. It's the second case within weeks.

There is every reason to question what the military helicopter was doing here -- dropping illegal immigrants? Dropping illegal drugs? Guiding traffickers over the border?

BROWNSVILLE — The Zapata County sheriff Thursday was questioning why a Mexican military helicopter was hovering over homes on the Texas side of the Rio Grande.
From the above article. If that chopper was here on official business then American LE would have been notified. So yes, it counts as an illegal incursion and said pilot was lucky he was not shot down.

All I can say is that it is starting to get really embarrassing and frustrating that our government continues to give Mexico a pass down there on the border. Just because it is a close border like it is and just because the lands are right there next to one another doesn't mean the country should be relaxed on border security. I mean, really? Anybody could just come in that way. Where's the respect for the safety of the people in this country? What does allowing this to happen more than once say about our country? It's not just a South of the Border thing, what message does that send other people who are watching this story? This is a safety issue for people who are here in the US.

It is indeed a serious issue because the "Mexican military" (I quote because that is what the Sheriff said, we don't know if it was a helicopter of the Mexican military) was really crossing our border and coming into our space apparently without authorization. Did the DHS give them authorization to be there? Is that possible? If so, then they had reason to be there, but it shows bad communication because the Sheriff knew nothing of it.

you think this is not about illegal immigration or drug cartels as it relates to the border, incursions and other drug and illegal issues.

This isn't the "crime" forum - this is the "illegal immigration" forum - there are other forums for this stuff.

Any way you spin it: it was pretty obvious that that Mx chopper was in US air space without authorization-----------which makes its actions illegal.
