Birthright citizenship initiative on hold | hilton, initiative, children - News - The Orange County Register

This is a very sad development. California seems like a pretty big state to attempt this in. Why not try it in Arizona or Oklahoma. Birthright citizenship is a major draw for illegal immigration. It may not stop illegals from coming here and having babies, but it will deter alot of the illegal alien females to not intentionly get pregnant just to gain a U.S. citizen child. The eight main goals in combating this scourge imo are;
1. Fencing the entire southern border
2. Mandatory E-Verify
3. Ending birthright citizenship
4. Visa Entry/Exit tracking system
5. Permanent barring of violators from re-entry into this country.
6. With E-Verify in effect, any businesses utilizing illegal immigrant labor period, will face jail time, fine and 10 year loss of operating license; by defualt
7. 30,000 strong border patrol and a 10,000 strong ICE force.
8. Special tax on small businesses and those making over 250,000 per year to pay for services rendered to illegal aliens in schools and healthcare.

No mass deportations needed. I would suspect 90% of illegals would self-deport.

While states cannot determine who gets to be a U.S. citizen, Hilton says the initiative would cut off benefits for the U.S.-born children of people who are in the country illegally. Many scholars argue that changing the definition of citizenship would require a constitutional amendment, which could only be done on the federal level.

They can't muster 600,000 signatures? Maybe they can hit up the local Cinco de Mayo celebrations for signatures...

...The city is teaming up with community groups to present the 38th annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta and Carnival through Sunday at La Palma Park.

Why not raise taxes on the upper class(richest Californians) since they most profit from cheap ready labor...

If Californias raised taxes on the wealthiest to pay for all the benifits you pay for now, then you would see how fast laws get passed.

No, if we enforce our current laws, we would have few foreigners coming here illegally. Then, it would be much more difficult for illegals to fleece this country by giving birth on U.S. soil.

The wealthiest citizens can easily leave CA. If only the shrinking middle class and illegal aliens remain, who will support your illegals?

I haven't seen or heard of anything about this? We must not be doing a very good marketing job.

You must be giddy to see this fail huh? Lucky you. For more enjoyment they were discussing the early release of criminals in CA too.

With the intention of good will towards the US tax payers. What would be negative about that? Seriously?

I'm all for relief to American tax payers.
