Sorry to dissapoint many people on this forum, but there is no national identity card. Not only is there no national identification card for citizens of the US, there is no compulsory to obtain or carry identification. I may be mistaken but I think green card holders must always carry with them resident id cards but citizens are not requires. If you are a citizen you cannot be detained for failing to produce some form of identification. You can be detained for breaking other laws, but not for failure to produce a form of identification. Be happy you don't live in Singapore or Turkey .

How naive you are. Try looking up the laws in your state about not producing ID when asked by a police officer or some other law enforcement agency. You will be arrested until you prove who you are.

Well, the problem is that most folks here are more concerned with imaginary rights rather than real ones, so you will have to excuse them for their ignorance.

Wrong, I believe even in Arizona you have the right to refuse.

and you are guilty for spreading ignorance. Get pulled over and tell the officer you are not going to show any ID because you don't feel it is necessary and see how those handcuffs feel around your wrists. Try it even if you're a passenger.

I don't think you read the OP. If the cop has reasonable cause to believe you were commiting a crime he can detain you for that crime, he cannot detain you for not having identification. If a cop has pulled you over he can still handcuff if you have broken a law, id or not, but he cannot cuff you if you have not broken any law or in suspicion of breaking a law.

National ID card is just another way the Federal gov. can keep track of every citizen. Each state has it's own set of rules for this and it is more then enough.

What it really shows is right politically give to illegals by those who want thier vote and will not enforce the law.We already see the resuts of passing the 1980's law with amnesty then not enforce=ig the border provisons to stop immagration. But it definitely porved that amnesty does not stop but encourages people to break the immagration laws and come in increasing numbers. At the same time those who obey the law are punished for witing inline. If manesty worked we would be talking about this now when it was only passed i the 80's. It reminds me of teh sellig the stilulus bill as massive infrastruture fixes and keeping unemployment low;another flop.
