Most of the grocery store clerks around here are local folks.

Plus there's always teenagers, who USED to be the ones working a McDonalds. Not 45 year old immigrants.
Yeah. I remember when you could even understand the cashier when ordering at a FF joint. Those were the days.

When the economy was good, nobody wanted those jobs - now that many are out of options, any job looks good.

What happens later?

What is funny is that it took where a federal audit, to lead to the firing of 300 workers. Not the market, not the state, not the local government. The company has I-9 forms and E-Verify to check employees' eligibility and still a large percentage of their employees were illegal.

There are plenty of people without high school diplomas or college degrees that would be happy for such an opportunity. There are millions of people whose skill level would fit the position.

Nothing wrong with that.

The real questions are:

1) why did the store hire 300 illegals (20% of the workforce) in the first place;

2) if the company is to be believed, then why is it so hard to verify status; and

3) what punishment will the company receive for breaking the law?

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO STOP ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION. YOU can make a difference!
START HERE: The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR): US Immigration Reform & What You Can Do
The article says the immigrants were fired because of a federal audit, not because of the new law.

Shows the intelligence of a few.... NAFTA has absolutely nothing to do with illegal trespass into the USA. It has to do with products produced in the nations of North America and traded freely among Mexico, USA and Canada.

Where is the rest of the story? The 300 illegals that were fired were criminals.

Did the federal government do their job?

Were these criminals arrested and are they currently serving time for violation of immigration law?
Were they deported?
Were they arrested for fraud or identity theft for using fradulant documents?

Or once again did ICE just ignore the criminal element and let them go?
