I know a lot of people reading this assume most Arizona residents support this bill. That isn't the case. Yes, most of us do support Sheriff Joe Arpaio and strong immigration reform. A lot of the Hispanic American citizen population in Arizona even supported Arpaio. That is no secret. Immigration affects us more than many other states because of our proximity to the border.

That doesn't mean most Arizona residents support 1070. The reason most Arizona residents don't support this bill is because it targets Hispanic Americans and any American citizen who could be perceived as being Hispanic such as Americans of Indian or Middle Eastern origin. The media is falsely portraying the idea that the PEOPLE of Arizona not the politicians are supporting this bill. It's not true. Governor Jan Brewer will be voted out of office in November because of this bill.

We always knew Sheriff Joe racially profiled but he usually also had probable cause. With 1070, you can now be harrassed by any law enforcement official if they have "reasonable suspicion" that you are an illegal which is not defined and can be abused. Why should an American citizen who was born and raised here be forced to carry a passport or a birth certificate to avoid being harrassed by the police?

This bill would not have taken place without Governer Jan Brewer signing it. The people of Arizona did not vote Jan Brewer to the governor position. Brewer got lucky and inherited it. She was just a lowly conservative politician who won the Lt. Governor position, a position most of us don't care about because it's essentially worthless figurehead position. Unfortunately when Napolitano vacated the position to join Obama, Brewer ended up as the governor. She does not represent the majority of the views here.
