No one I know wants to grant amnesty to lawbreakers, no matter how many sob stories they tell the authorities. Why isn't the focus placed on fixing "Corrupt" Mexico/wherever rather than allowing criminals to have a free ride, reproduce, drain the $$, trash a neighborhood, and provide easy cannon fodder for the next war ?
While i agree with what you say about the politicians starting it, many, NOT ALL of the residents will sadly back this.
70% of the population of AZ SUPPORTS this law, how many signatures do you think they'll really get and if it ever did make it on a ballot it would fail miserably. They're just trying to delay the inevitable, time to go home criminals.

Great point, Peggy Anne
If the Illegal Lovers and the actual Illegals would spend as much time and energy "fixing" the problems in Mexico rather than demonstrating and demanding in the United States . . . this would be a non-issue.

Both Mccain and Kyl have been sitting in Washington for decades doing nothing about it.
Enforcement on the Border has doubled in the last year the Border Patrol is doing a much better job than for the last decade
Before people start to label Arizona as being a bigoted state, try to understand that it was the politicians not the people who created this law. Arizona's people are now taking matters into their own hands and trying to end this law.
A group calling itself One Arizona filed petitions with the state Wednesday to refer Arizona's to the November ballot. It's the second referendum drive announced this week.
One Arizona chairman Andrew Chavez, who runs a petition-circulation company, said the groups want voters to overturn Bill 1070.
Oh so Andrew Chavez has a hand in this huh? makes sense. he is probably an anchor baby himself.
Probably got a decent education, free healthcare, welfare, food and a solid understanding of what it really takes to govern and then......he scurried back down Venezuela-way and became such a wonderful leader and contribution to global society!
Product of his American Dream.......I suppose?
Have they started laying land mines across the desert yet?
Received orders to shoot first and ask questions later?
Just kidding.
And I'm not for amnesty.....for any survivors that make it and get to pass "GO"
What they did under Bush was divert a billion dollars to Defense Contractors for a """Virtual Fence""" that was an abject failure and now has to be torn down, diverting more money from real enforcement.
Maybe the citizens of Mexico who are living here could understand better if we just adopt the same immigration laws their country has.
If you had a clue what you are saying you would know that most illegals coming in from Mexico these days are not Mexican. They are from guatamala, Costa rica , El Salvadore and a laundry list of evenm poorer countries. Many spent money on false Mexican Documents so that if they are caught they are only sent back top Mexico rather than all the way home
