Diamondbacks Face Backlash Over Immigration Law - NYTimes.com

Quote:
At one point, a fan, carrying his own bullhorn and two large American flags, got into a screaming match with protesters as he declared that he was “standing with America’s favorite pastime” and urged the crowd not to boycott Arizona at all. The protesters chanted at the man, who was African-American, “Racist, go home!”
As a Chicagoan, these are my reactions:

1.) Baseball should not suffer as a result of politics, especially in Chicago, just because the Diamondbacks are visiting. They do realize that the Cubs get the revenue for the game, not the Diamondbacks, right?
2.) Just because you do not support illegal immigration, does not make you a racist. The counter-protester was merely stating that fans should not boycott baseball nor Arizona,
and did not mention ANYTHING racist at all, yet was called one. Is the race card all they have?
3.) Attendance still did not suffer.
4.) I do not understand why the media portrays all of us Hispanics as being pro-illegals. Do they not realize that illegals make us hardworking legal Hispanics look bad?

Kinda offtopic from the particular story, but:
5.) WHY are people so against this law? Are people that upset that the police are going to stop and ask for ID, something we have done to us all the time when we go buy alcohol, cigarettes, or cash a check at a bank? Do they not realize race cannot be a sole criterion? Why is the media blowing this incredibly out of proportion, hinting that this is a ploy to turn Arizona into nazi Germany? Have we become that PC and weak that we cannot enforce ANY law because it might hurt feelings? Seriously, when did we Americans become so easily offended?
