I was disappointed to see my "US should adopt Mexico's illegal immigration laws" thread closed. It was a legit thread, with links to articles.

But Rico from East Los turned a good thread into his own trolling ground and got exactly what he wanted: to close the thread.

I ask the CD mods here, please don't close threads. Or, why not ban the offending trolls or delete their posts from the thread instead?

I agree. Some of these trolls believe they have an emotional investment in the issue with no facts at all or anything to add. It's all right to disagree and argue your case, you're entitled to your own opinions even if you are wrong.

Because Rico is probably the 20th reincarnation of a CD illegal immigration forum regular who has pestered these forums for years with the same tired arguments. When the mods shut one of his handles down, he just comes back as a new handle. He has several going right now, and many others that were permanently banned.

Those of us who have been posting here for years recognize his new aliases relatively quickly. He knows it too. I think it's like a game to him.

^^ Why not ban his IP then? I've seen other forums do this, to prevent multiple accounts.

I think it's in the regulations not to call out a mods job in an open forum. Maybe a DM will help rectify this situation as well as the other issues bombarding this forum lately. I think they have their hands full most of the time.

Before I close this thread ( I can do that, can I ?) I'd like to point out, that contrary to popular belief, not everyone who has strong, opposing views is a troll. Furthermore, when it comes to trolling (wiki definition) both sides of this issue have played their part.
As a mod, my tools are limited - there is only so much I can do. I use these tools, I do a check on everyone that posts here. Yes, EVERYONE. I usually ban ~4 trolls/day. The fact that someone's posts seem similar to another members posts might be an indication of someone having more than 1 account, but its not evidence. I've had posters complain about a case like this, they were absolutely sure... as it turned out, there really were 2 people, one living in Maine, the other New Mexico. So don't rush to judgment and let me handle it.
If a single person brings a thread down, I don't close it. I close it when the discussion deteriorates into petty fighting and the thread goes off topic.
If you have any questions/comments feel free to contact me in private, but per our tos, discussing moderation in public is not allowed.
Yac.
