The protest in Washington D.C. escalated into civil disobedience, with U.S. Representative Luis V. Gutierrez (D-Ill.) arrested for participating. Gutierrez predicted his own arrest in a press release before the rally. “At the Washington event, organized by the National Capital Immigrant Coalition, peaceful acts of civil disobedience, such as blocking the sidewalk in front of the White House, are expected,” the statement read. “The Congressman plans to participate in this part of the day's activity, which will likely lead to his arrest."
Gotta give this man credit, he really supports non-citizens.
And with this act, he has secured his office for many years due to the gerrymandering of his distract.
It's a shame he cannot stand for legal American citizens or legal Hispanics.
Here in Chicago we had a rally of about 1,000 - nowhere near as big as LA. America is a wonderful country where IA's can protest, call a political party racist, and demand change without getting arrested. We appreciate how amazing our country is and follow its laws....why can't they?
Gutierrez said they would adopt the philosophy of the 60’s Civil Rights Movement. Thus, an arrest for civil disobedience is part and parcel. He fancies himself as the Hispanic version of Dr. King, so we can expect him to deliver a powerful message on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial sometime in the near future.
I really don't think this is about supporting non-citizens. This has everything to do with the repercussions for Hispanics legally living in the U.S. Simple fact is that there are more legal Hispanics living in the U.S than illegal ones. The police will be actively looking for Hispanic looking individuals, because as the stereotype goes, the default illegal immigrant will look Mestizo-Indian.

This is a town that is 90% hispanic so you would expect there would be some protesting for illegal immigration. Also the fact that many here in this town are foreign born.

I really like the illegal immigrants at these rallies carrying and waving the American Flag acting like they care about the country. The first thing the did was break the law upon entering illegally, no attempts to learn English. Real Patriotic.

LOL Exactly. They vilolate a host of laws, demand special rights and then pretend they are all about being good citizens.
News flash. Illegals are criminals. 100% of them. None are honest people. None deserve the gift of being a citizen in this country.

They carry the U.S. flag as a prop. We all saw their “real” allegiance during their previous marches in which foreign flags, most notably the Mexican flag, were predominant. After the rallies, those U.S. flags will be discarded, just as they were following their “March for America” rally in DC. If they haven’t learned anything, they have finally learned not to wave their flags while demanding we embrace them and support their legalization. Obviously, they don’t realize we aren’t fooled by their feigned patriotism. They let the cat out of the bag ages ago.
