Either way, there's a difference between drug smugglers, and what we call undocumented immigrants. Two different people here for different reasons.

What's so difficult? There are 12 million Ilegals here. If they were running drugs there are probably a very large amount of Illegals involved. Probably some Americans too as eventually the drugs get sold on the street.
