Default Should we increase legal immigration, decrease it, or keep it the same?

Maybe part of the reason why companies are hiring illegal immigrants is because there is a demand for them. If that is the case do we need to increase the amount of legal immigrants. Legal, not illegal.

That would depend now wouldn't it? We would have to make it to where only foreign nationals on visas were here and no one was here illegally, give a time frame for the jobs to be filled, THEN bring in the appropriate amount based on our country's needs. At this point in time we don't need anymore LEGAL immigration because of ILLEGAL immigration. It would be nice to be fair to those working so hard to follow the rules, wouldn't it?

If there was an increase it would be for legal immigrants, don't see how this is not fair to the ones that follow the rules. Do you favor decreasing it or keeping it the same?

US pop has gone from 175M in 1960 to 305M today. That's almost a doubling in 50 years. Parts of the US are already very crowded and some areas don't have the resources to sustain a good quality of life.

I guess I was unclear somehow. Right now, no, we don't need any more legal immigrants, at least when it comes to low skilled jobs. If the illegals were gone, then yes, we most likely would need more legal immigrants here on visas. We would have to assess how many we would need after the illegals were gone.

I think all immigration rates should be inversely tied to unemployment rates. When unemployment goes up, we obviously need fewer people moving in. It does not any good to have a limit on legal immigration while allowing in unlimited numbers of illegal immigrants.

I don't know if we should increase or decrease it, but the whole system needs to be reworked. A point system similar to Canada's would make sense.
