Regestered tribal member of the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe. My ancestors welcomed the white illegal immigrants and shared our harvest with them. Then they took out the boom sticks and took our land by the river. Then they took the Mohawk Valley and moved us to a peice of land that nobody wanted. Then they took the land that nobody wanted and moved us to a swamp. They gave us blankets in trade for our beaver. The blankets made us sick and many died. After they took all our land they gave us a treaty that said we would all live in peace for ever.
We should have killed them all when they first stepped ashore.

As I have commented in the past: the Euros were no more than tougher 'Indians'. Had the Mohawk, etc. had better weapons---------history would have been different. Besides: stronger groups beat up weaker tribes prior to 1492.

Needless to say: American Indians today have the same rights (except for Affirmative Action which does more harm than good) as any other citizen of the USA. If Obama can win the White House; maybe it is time for a Cherokee, Navajo, etc. to step up.
