They're hoping that everyone will join them in accepting defeat. Also, what Malamute said.

It's one of those little 'open secrets' so prevalent in this whole issue. Actually, there have been a number of 'pro-illegals'....(or illegal 'sympathizers') on the forum who HAVE come out in favor of 'securing the border'...(presumably as being a more humane remedy than the 'Arizona-type' laws penalizing individual illegals). It's my belief that these folks say this stuff, secure in the knowledge that it won't be 'tested' at any time soon. In other words, they KNOW that we probably WON'T secure our border. The very SAME people, two years ago or so, were QUITE loud in their opposition to the 'Border Fence'...which at that time, looked like it MIGHT get built.

The same folks (those 'pro-illegals' who CLAIM they'd like something done about the problem) also often advocate "penalizing the employers" (jail terms, fines, etc etc). But you can rest assured that if the day actually came that this happened, the cry would go up that 'massive numbers of immigrants were being thrown out of work as their employers replaced them with 'native born' workers'....and on and on it goes. Again, they can ADVOCATE this stuff in good conscience, knowing that it's unlikely ever to happen.

Let's face it, folks...this has been reduced to MAINLY a racial / ethnic / 'emotional' debate...and there are a certain number of us who just plain WANT illegals to come here...stay here....and NEVER have to leave...EVER. And if they can't come up with a 'good reason', they'll come up with a 'bad' one.

You'll never win a 'racial' argument....and that's why I seldom get involved in these threads any more. Rest assured, though...some people just WANT illegals here, and that's that. Their reasons for this, and their justifications, are purely secondary.

You're right. They have an ulterior motive to their pretendness at advocating border security and wanting the employers punished. They want the border secured just as long as it doesn't include a fence or any other methods to actually secure it. They want the employers punished but not the illegal aliens themselves. Yet they will tout all day long that they want border security and the employers punished (just as long as it means that the illegals get to stay here). They speak with forked tongue.

For anyone that thinks the fence isn't working, Operation Gatekeeper in SD has brought illegals crossing along that stretch of the border down to almost nothing. It's higher in the desert but at least the Illegals have to take a huge risk to sneak across.
